New Jersey’s Henry Hudson Trail Follows an Old Railroad Bed

A dentist at Simply Beautiful Smiles of Rancocas, Dr. Matthew Girardy has over a decade of experience in areas ranging from cosmetic dentistry to implants and restorations. Away from work, Dr. Matthew Girardy enjoys hiking and biking in the area near his home in Spring Lake, New Jersey.

Not far from Spring Lake, the Henry Hudson Trail follows an old railroad through Monmouth County. Designated part of the National Rails-to-Trails Network, it covers 24 miles beginning in the Bayshore’s marshy regions and continuing through a diverse landscape to the fields and woodlands near Freehold and Marlboro, ending by the 234-acre Big Brook Park.

A paved trail about 10 feet wide, the Henry Hudson Trail features an activity center located in the northern section at 945 State Hwy. 36 in Leonardo. The only restrooms and water fountains along the way can be found at the activity center.

The Henry Hudson Trail welcomes hikers and equestrians as well as those on bicycle. It remains open from dawn to dusk each day.

The Spring Lake Boardwalk

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Matthew Girardy practices general dentistry at Simply Beautiful Smiles of Rancocas in New Jersey. Dr. Matthew Girardy lives in the nearby borough of Spring Lake, where he counts walking the boardwalk as one of his favorite pastimes.

The Spring Lake Boardwalk is a product of the Works Progress Administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal. Unlike other New Jersey boardwalks, the Spring Lake Boardwalk is uncluttered with retail shops and shoppers. Visitors appreciate the boardwalk’s peaceful atmosphere, its open beach access, and its ocean views.

The Spring Lake Boardwalk spans both miles of the town’s beachfront and connects with other boardwalks to allow visitors to walk to the north side of Asbury Park on nearly seven miles of largely uninterrupted boardwalk. For the convenience of visitors, the Spring Lake Boardwalk supports two service areas that offer food and restrooms.
