An Overview of Composite Bonding

An accomplished New Jersey dental practitioner, Dr. Matthew Girardy is experienced in various general dentistry procedures. As a dentist at Simply Beautiful Smiles of Rancocas, New Jersey, Matthew Girardy, DMD helps performs a wide range of cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Cosmetic dentistry consists of various procedures that aim to fix stained, broken, discolored, misaligned, gapped teets to achieve a better smile. Composite bonding is one of the most common cosmetic dentistry procedures. It repairs teeth using a special colored material (resin) that matches the color of the tooth enamel.

For tooth decay, a dentist drills out the tooth decay, adds the composite material on the tooth’s surface and sculpts the tooth into the right shape before finally using high-intensity light for curing. For slightly crooked teeth, composite bonding can boost your appearance as resin is added to some areas in order hide misaligned teeth.

In the case of small gaps between teeth, dentists place resin on the teeth which either closes up the gaps completely or significantly reduces their sizes making them difficult to see in the event total sealing is not possible. Composite bonding is among the least expensive cosmetic dentistry procedures and is pain-free meaning no anesthesia is required. This procedure is a great way to restore lost tooth structure and is applicable to patients of varying ages. However, it can only be used to correct minor anomalies purely for cosmetic purposes.

Do Dental X-Rays Pose Health Risks?

In 1996, Dr. Matthew Girardy obtained a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Matthew Girardy is a former general dentist at Hazlet Family Dental in New Jersey. In that role, he provided both new and established dental treatments to patients, as well as dental assessments and diagnostic procedures – such as taking dental x-rays.

Dental x-rays, sometimes called dental radiographs, are done to help dentists assess a patient’s oral health and also identify problems such as cavities and infections. They can also be used to track the progress of dental treatment. Just like regular dental cleanings, dental x-rays are very common and important tools in dentistry, and a patient may have dental x-rays taken every year.

Dental x-rays involve low-level radiation that is considered safe for both children and adults. In addition, if digital x-rays are used, radiation exposure to the patient is reduced even further. To keep the patient’s vital organs safe from accidental radiation encounters, a lead bib is placed over a patient’s chest, abdomen, and pelvic region. A patient with a thyroid condition will use a thyroid collar in addition to a lead bib, and generally, the procedure is not recommended for patients who are pregnant.

Early and Advanced Symptoms of Gingivitis

Matthew Girardy, DMD, earned a degree in behavioral neuroscience before enrolling in the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. As a general dentist with the Simply Beautiful Smiles clinic in New Jersey, Matthew Girardy, DMD provides corrective and preventative dentistry services, including routine cleanings that reduce the risk of oral diseases like gingivitis.

Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease and is caused by poor oral hygiene and other hormonal or lifestyle factors. Without routine dental care, bacteria build up around the teeth on a film known as plaque. This can harden into tartar, which can only be removed by a dentist.

As the bacteria grows, it irritates the surrounding gum tissue, causing inflammation and tenderness. Other symptoms can include foul-smelling breath, sores, or bleeding while brushing. If treated early, gingivitis is reversible. However, if it progresses into periodontitis, it can result in irreparable tissue damage. There is also some evidence that bacteria from the mouth can spread throughout the body through gaps in the gum line arising from advanced periodontitis.

Tips to Ensure Dentures Remain Firm and in Place

An accomplished New Jersey dental practitioner with extensive experience, Matthew Girady has a wide expertise ranging from general dentistry procedures to performing restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedures. Presently, he is the general dentist at Simply Beautiful Smiles of Rancocas where he heads a multi-dental practice. In his current position, Matthew Girady treats patients and performs numerous restorations including fillings, implants, crowns and dentures.

Well fitted and maintained dentures look natural and it’s hard to distinguish them from your own teeth. To ensure comfort, it is important to acquire a good set of dentures that fit you well and don’t cause any pain or discomfort. The following are tips of how to ensure you have dentures that remain a good fit.

1. Your dentures should be cleaned regularly as part of your daily dental hygiene. Everyday cleaning ensures they don’t get loose or change their shape. When cleaning, use a specialized soft toothbrush and avoid using toothpaste and other non-recommended cleaning tools that can damage the dentures.

2. Use a denture adhesive which is available in various forms such as creams, liquids and powders. When used, the adhesive mixes with saliva creating a strong link between the dentures and gums enabling them to firmly remain in place.

3. Speak slowly and eat wisely especially if you’re new to dentures, as a little force can make them loose and detach themselves from the gums. You may have to change your diet when wearing dentures and focus on softer foods that don’t put pressure on the dentures.

How to Visit Disney World on a Budget

A New Jersey based highly experienced dental expert, Matthew Girady is the general dentist at Simply Beautiful Smiles of Rancocas where he’s a general dentist at a multi-dental practice clinic. He has in-depth expertise in various areas including general dentist procedures, restorative/cosmetic dentistry procedures as well as routine cleanings and exams. When he’s not working, Matthew Girady loves traveling to Disney World and has been to the park more than 10 times.

Visiting Disney World is a magical experience with castles, thrills, fairytales and your favorite animated stars. Despite all the fun associated with Disney World it remains an expensive vacation destination, but that doesn’t mean you can’t visit on a budget. A good way of saving money is to avoid choosing an all-inclusive meal plan and instead, bring your own food. Many people don’t know Disney World including hotels and resorts allow food from outside except glass bottles and food that requires a microwave. Bringing your own food is not only cheaper but helps you to stay away from the long queues for food.

Skipping Park Hopper tickets is also great way to save money while visiting Disney World. If you’re staying for multiple days, you can lower your budget by purchasing a single park ticket at $109 which is $60 less compared to a $169 Park Hopper ticket. The Park Hopper ticket gives you access to all Disney parks in one day, which may be unrealistic as you may not be able to move from one park to another in a single day, especially if you have children.

Three Types of Cavities to Watch For

Serving patients in Rancocas, New Jersey, Matthew Girardy, DMD, is experienced in various facets of general dentistry. Among Dr. Matthew Girardy’s areas of focus is identifying and treating cavities before they compromise oral health.

There are three main types of cavities: root decay, pit and fissure decay, and smooth surface decay. The latter is the least serious and impacts the flat-surfaced teeth. Depending on the amount of enamel loss, an option such as varnish, gel, or fluoride enriched water may be recommended instead of a filling.

By contrast, pit and fissure decay can reach the tooth’s inner dentin and necessitate a filling, crown, or composite. In cavities involving the molars, a protective sealant may be applied to prevent further decay.

Starting at the gum line, root decay is a type of hidden cavity that can emerge unsuspected. Often occurring in tight spaces between the teeth, signs to watch for are tooth discoloration at the gum line and notches in the tooth at the point where the enamel meets the gum. In addition, there may be an issue of receding gums that reveal a yellowish portion of the tooth. This type of cavity is often identified through x-rays or intraoral cameras during a checkup.

Three Types of Dental Fillings

Listed in Who’s Who among Professionals, Dr. Matthew Girardy is a general dentist who cares for patients at Simply Beautiful Smiles of Rancocas in New Jersey. In this capacity, Dr. Matthew Girardy draws upon more than 20 years of experience to provide an array of dental services, from cleanings to restorations including crowns, implants, and fillings.

Filling materials are used by dentists to repair chipped teeth or to replace decayed material, also known as a cavity, that has been removed. Below are three different types of dental filling materials:

1. Amalgams – These silver fillings are FDA-approved for adults and children who are at least six years old. While they are durable and inexpensive compared to other types of fillings, they aren’t aesthetically pleasing and can contribute to a relatively high incidence of tooth fractures. Moreover, a small percentage of the population is allergic to the mercury in amalgam fillings.

2. Tooth-colored composites – While these are more aesthetically pleasing than silver-colored amalgams and have the benefit of bonding to tooth structures, they don’t last as long, take longer to place, and can require additional dental appointments if used for onlays or inlays.

3. Glass ionomer – A mixture of a special type of glass and acrylic, this material is predominantly used for fillings in infants or below the gum line in adults. It releases fluoride and protects the tooth from additional decay, but isn’t as durable as amalgams or composite resin.
